Trio Lead Bentley to 2-0 Home Win over Merrimack

WALTHAM, Mass. - Junior Brandi McDonald (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater) and sophomore Sammy Millman (Northport, N.Y./Northport) each scored in the first half, and goalkeeper Deirdre Macrorie (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) saved a penalty kick as the Bentley women's soccer team defeated Merrimack 2-0 on Wednesday.

The Falcons have now won three of their first four games and are 1-1 in NE10 games to begin the season after today's victory over the visiting Warriors.

McDonald got the Falcons out to a 1-0 lead in just the 8th minute with a nicely worked goal, combined with freshman Marissa Burns (Hudson, N.H.). Burns played a dangerous ball into the penalty area from the right wing that McDonald ran onto and headed into the back of the net to give Bentley an early lead.

Just 11 minutes later Millman doubled Bentley's lead with a tremendous long distance strike from 30 yards out that gave the Merrimack keeper no chance as it settled into the top corner of the net.

Merrimack had a golden opportunity to cut Bentley's deficit in half when they were awarded a penalty kick in the 39th minute. However, Macrorie denied Emily Maier's attempt with a tremendous diving save to her right to keep it a 2-0 lead for the Falcons.

The Falcons are back at home on Saturday when they host Assumption for a 12:00 pm kickoff.
