Bentley Suffers 2-1 OT Defeat to AIC; Connolly Scores in 3rd Straight Game

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Despite freshman Lindsey Connolly (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) scoring for the 3rd straight game, the Bentley women's soccer team suffered a tough 2-1 overtime defeat to AIC on the road Friday night in the NE10 opener for both teams.

The teams traded goals in the early going. AIC got the game's first goal from forward Linnea Herbertsson in just the 7th minute after she took a ball in from the right wing from forward Jennifer Hackett, and finished with a shot to the bottom corner of the net.

AICs 1-0 lead didn't last long though, as freshman Connolly got the Falcons back on even footing just 13th minutes later. She pounced on a loose ball in front of the net and fired a shot past AIC keeper Mikayla Demanche in the 19th minute, which was her 3rd goal in as many games to begin her career.

That was the last goal in regulation as the game pushed into overtime. Bentley keeper Deirdre Macrorie (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) needed to make just two saves in regulation, while the Falcons forced Demanche into three saves in the second half, but they could not find the go-ahead goal.

In the first overtime, Macrorie saved the only shot on goal, but the Yellow Jackets threatened with six total shots.

They found the breakthrough with just 40 seconds left in the 2nd overtime and before the match ended in a tie, as midfielder Rachel Brown headed in a cross delivered by Hackett for the winning goal.

The defeat snapped Bentley's two game winning streak to begin the season, and dropped its record to 2-1 overall, 0-1 NE10. They'll look to bounce back on Wednesday at home against Merrimack.
