Bentley Sweeps Opening Weekend with 2-1 Victory over Dominican

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Goals by Stephanie Helin (Manchester, Conn./East Catholic) and Lindsey Connolly (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) lifted the Bentley University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Dominican on Sunday afternoon for a sweep of opening weekend.

Combined with Friday's 1-0 win over Molloy, the Falcons have swept opening weekend for the second straight season.

Dominican got out to an early lead with a 3rd minute goal from junior back Danielle Gillespie. But Bentley was able to tie it up on sophomore Helin's goal in the 38th minute, off an assist from sophomore Sammy Millman (Northport, N.Y./Northport). Millman fed Helin with a pass in the box, and Millmann fired low to beat keeper Angelica Contreras to knot the score 1-1.

Bentley had dominated the first half to the tune of an 18-3 edge in shots, and peppered the net with 11 shots on goal.

In the 2nd half Bentley's dominance was rewarded again when Connolly scored for the second time this weekend, with Helin on the assist. The goal came in the 70th minute and was from a shot by Connolly just outside the six yard box. She now has two goals in each of her first two collegiate matches.

Bentley's defense limited Dominican to just three shots all game.

Now 2-0 on the season, the Falcons next play Franklin Pierce in a non-conference game for their home opener. That comes on Wednesday at 3:30.
