Helin, Macrorie Help Bentley Win at Merrimack 2-0

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Freshman Stephanie Helin (Manchester, Conn./East Catholic HS) scored a goal and provided an assist to help the Bentley women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Merrimack Wednesday night. Goalkeeper Deirdre Macrorie (Winchester/Winchester HS) made 10 saves in the victory.

Helin first scored in the 48th minute to put Bentley up 1-0, then assisted on senior Ana Tantum's (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull HS) 9th goal of the season in the 76th minute.

Macrorie meanwhile was stellar and stopped all 10 shots on goal she faced, with five in each half. The teams each took 23 shots, but Bentley had an 8-3 edge in corner kicks.

Helin's goal started after Tantum chased down a ball and fed to Meagan Iris (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills) up top. Iris then fed a diagonal ball to Alyssa Valente (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) that she chased down on the far post. Valente then fed a cross into the penalty area, that Helin ran onto. The assist was Valente's 7th of the year.

For the second goal, Helin chipped a pass to Tantum that she beat her defender to. Tantum then fired off a shot that went off the goalkeepers' hands for the goal.

Macrorie meanwhile helped keep the clean sheet, and her 10 saves are a season high. She earned her 7th win of the season.

Bentley is now 4-3-2 in NE-10 matches for 14 points. The will be back in action on Saturday at Saint Rose.
