Tantum, Valente Score Late to Help Bentley Stay Unbeaten with 2-0 Win at New Haven

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Ana Tantum (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull HS) and Alyssa Valente (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan HS) scored late in the 2nd half to lift the Bentley University women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory at New Haven on Saturday afternoon. The win extended the Falcons' unbeaten start to the season to seven matches.

The teams were locked in a tight 0-0 match until Tantum scored the breakthrough goal in the 76th minute, her 6th goal of the year, followed by Valente adding an insurance goal in the 80th minute, to give Bentley a 2-0 lead.

The Falcons are now 5-0-2 on the season, and 2-0-2 in Northeast-10 matches, which gives them eight points.

The Chargers had the pressure on in the first half with five shots on goal. However junior goalie Deirdre Macrorie (Winchester, Mass./Winchester HS) was equal to the task and stopped each one, and the match went into halftime 0-0. Macrorie ended the day with six saves, and earned her fifth win of the season.

Into the 2nd half and as the match entered its later stages, Tantum scored the breakthrough goal. She dribbled to the end line and beat the UNH keeper to the near post for the goal to give Bentley a 1-0 lead.

Just over four minutes later, Tantum was involved again. Her pass teed up Valente, whose shot from just inside the penalty area nestled into the top corner to double Bentley's lead at 2-0 in the 80th minute. The goal was Valente's 5th of the season, and Tantum's 4th assist.

With her goal, Tantum moved into 5th place for career goals (24) in the program's history, and into a tie for 5th in points (59).

The Falcons will look to keep their unbeaten start to the season going on Wednesday night when they visit Southern New Hampshire.
