Valente’s OT Goal Keeps Bentley Perfect with 2-1 Victory Over Queens

FLUSHING, N.Y. – Sophomore Alyssa Valente (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) scored 2:38 into overtime to give the Bentley women's soccer team a 2-1 OT victory at Queens Saturday afternoon to keep the team undefeated on the season at 3-0.

Valente beat her defender down the right flank and fired a shot past Queens goalie Megan Deak to the left of the net to give the Falcons the win. Senior Jamie Grinavic (North Attleoboro, Mass./North Attleboro) had the assist. The goal was the 2nd of the season for Valente, and Grinavic's 2nd assist.

Queens actually seized an early 1-0 lead, as forward Erin Vernillo put the hosts in front in the just the 3rd minute.

The Falcons weren't deterred though, and the lead didn't last long as senior Ana Tantum (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) brought the team level with an unassisted goal, already her 4th of the season, in the 14th minute.

After the early flurry of goals, both teams settled in defensively, though both squads had chances. Bentley had seven of its nine  total shots on goal after Tantum's goal, and Queens had six of its seven, but Bentley goalie Deirdre Macrorie (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) stopped each one.

The Falcons will now take their 3-0 record into Wednesday night's Northeast-10 opener at Assumption. Kick off for that one is set for 7:00 pm.
