NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Freshman Stephanie Helin (Manchester, Conn./East Catholic) scored twice and senior Jamie Grinavic (North Attleboro, Mass./North Attleoboro) was on target in the first half, as Bentley defeated Molloy 3-0 on Sunday to sweep both of its matches of the season opening Kickoff Classic.
The Falcons are now off to a 2-0 start on the season after winning Friday's season opener over Dominican 5-0. They outscored their opponents 8-0 in winning both matches this weekend.
Grinavic opened the scoring in just the 7th minute with an unassisted goal. Junior goalie Deirdre Macrorie (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) helped that 1-0 lead stand up into halftime with three first half saves.
Macrorie came up with another save in the 64th minute on a shot by Molloy's Mariella Gotti to preserve the team's 1-0 lead, until Helin provided the breakthrough for the Falcons in the 79th minute with her first career goal. Sophomore forward Alyssa Valente (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) provided the assist, her third of the weekend.
Less than two minutes later Helin struck again to put the game away at 3-0, this time freshman Riane Hunt (Millis, Mass./Millis) notched the assist.
Macrorie finished the afternoon with five saves for the victory in goal.
The Falcons will take their 2-0 record into next Saturday's game at Queens (N.Y.), which is a 2:00 pm start
