Adelphi Edges Bentley 1-0 on Strength of 1st Half Goal

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Hosts Adelphi earned a 1-0 victory over Bentley on Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 women's soccer matchup. Panthers midfielder Kelsey Malles scored the deciding goal in the 40th minute.

Bentley again put in a tough defensive performance as they limited the Panthers, who came into the day with the second most goals scored in the NE-10 this season, to just one score in the 90 minutes. But Malles, who came on as a sub in the 21st minute, scored to give them the edge and Bentley could not find the equalizer.

The goal was set up after pass into the box by forward Laura Gomez took a deflection to the feet of Malles, who scored from five yards out.

Four of Bentley's eight shots on the afternoon were on goal, but each one was denied by Adelphi keeper Anne Marie Ulliac. Two in the first half, by Jenny Lewis (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) and Alyssa Valente (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan), and two in the second half by Paige Tetu (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) and captain Sam Ford (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side).

Adelphi runs its unbeaten streak to seven with the win, while the Falcons drop to 2-5-2 overall and 0-5-1 in the NE-10. They'll look to get back on track on Tuesday when they visit Stonehill for a 3:30 pm kickoff.
