Williams’ Goal Helps Pace Top Bentley 1-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – Visiting Pace scored the match's only goal in the 79th minute from forward Delany Williams to lead them to a 1-0 victory over Bentley on Saturday afternoon.

Pace scored the decisive goal after a long ball from the center of the field over the top of the Bentley defense. Williams ran onto the ball and slotted her shot home from 18 yards out to give the Setters a 1-0 lead.

Bentley had the best chance of the first half, nearly scoring off a corner kick in the 41st minute. Junior Paige Tetu (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) swung the kick in, and junior Jamie Grinavic (North Attleboro, Mass./North Attleboro) got the shot off that was headed towards goal, only for a Pace defensive player on the far post to head it off the line.

Pace had a chance to take the lead early in the 2nd half, only for Bentley goalie Deirdre Macrorie (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) to make a diving save on Sarah Bendl's shot in the 54th minute. That was one of her three saves on the day.

Forward Ana Tantum (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) had a game high three shots for Bentley.

The Falcons (2-2-1, 0-2-0 NE-10) is back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they visit Saint Anselm for a 3:00 pm kickoff.
