Bentley Tallies 8 Goals in 2nd Half, Wins 8-0 for 2nd Straight

WALTHAM, Mass. – Four goals in the first 21 minutes of the 2nd half, two of which saw freshman Alyssa Valente (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) set up junior Jenny Lewis (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill), propelled Bentley to a 8-0 win over Concordia in the team's home opener Wednesday afternoon.

In addition to Lewis' two goals, both Jamie Grinavic (North Attleboro, Mass./North Attleboro) and Anna Siefring (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) had two goals as well.

Following a first half that saw them dominate possession and produce a number of scoring chances, but unable to finish them off, Bentley broke through in a big way in the second half. The win is the team's second in a row and extends its unbeaten streak to three to start the season (2-0-1).

Valente set up Lewis twice from the right wing for goals in the 50th and 61st minutes, the first of which gave Bentley a 1-0 lead and sent them on their way. Both times Valente made a run down the right wing and fed a cross to Lewis on the far post for her to finish off the goal.

Junior forward Ana Tantum (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) scored Bentley's second goal in the 58th minute with a nice individual effort, scoring after dribbling into the box and around the charging goalkeeper for the goal to put the Falcons up two. Lewis and Valente teamed up again just three minutes later to make it 3-nil.

Freshman Christine Hoynack (Miami, Fla./Lourdes Academy) fired in a shot from 12 yards out to make it 4-0 in the 67th minute, before Grinavic scored two straight goals in the 70th and 76th minutes to make it 6-0. Siefring added Bentley's 7th and 8th goals of the day in the 81st and 88th minutes.

Goalkeeper Deirdre Macrorie (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) made four saves for her third straight shutout.

Bentley will look for its third straight win on Sept. 16 when they host Assumption for its Northeast-10 opener.
