Trudeau’s Two Goals Help Stonehill Top Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. - Senior forward Renee Trudeau scored two goals, one in each half, to help visiting Stonehill defeat the Bentley women's soccer team 4-1 in a Northeast-10 encounter Tuesday afternoon. Senior co-captain Patty McAllister (South Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) added a goal for Bentley in the 90th minute.

Bentley created more chances in the first half, and they outshot the Skyhawks by a 9-4 count. The Falcons came close to scoring a couple of times in the opening 45 minutes. A shot by sophomore forward Ana Tantum (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) in the 31st minute required a diving save to the right by Stonehill keeper Jamie Block.

Freshman forward Peyton Kent (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) then had a shot hit the post 36th minute, and another shot saved by Block one minute later.

Stonehill then took advantage of those near misses with the match's first goal, from Trudeau in the 41st minute, as she scored off a rebound from a shot by junior Meagan Elliott.

The Skyhawks took that 1-0 lead into halftime and added on to it in the second half. Senior Carolyn Moodie made it 2-0 in the 55th minute with a strike from 15 yards out to the left corner of the net. Four minutes later Trudeau netted her second of the day. After a Bentley save on a shot by midfielder Caroline Stone, the rebound popped right to Trudeau on the doorstep for the goal.

Junior Sam Ford (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) nearly got Bentley on the board in the 67th minute with a rocket of a shot that hit the crossbar. Sophomore Anna Siefring (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) then had a shot just go over the bar.

McAllister notched her goal just before time expired, with a deft chip over the goalkeeper's head from 15 yards away.

Stonehill's Northeast-10 record improves to 6-4-1 with the victory. The Falcons are back in action on Friday for their final home match against Southern Connecticut. Kickoff is 3:30 pm.
