Bentley Suffers 1-0 Heartbreaker in Double OT to Le Moyne

WALTHAM, Mass. – Le Moyne junior Marissa Walsh scored in double overtime, in the 106th minute, to deal the Bentley women's soccer team a tough 1-0 defeat Saturday afternoon in the Northeast-10 opener for both squads.

Freshman Kirsten Colgrove played a ball to Walsh in the right corner of the box. Walsh then lofted her shot to the far post, and the ball just bounced in to the corner of the net to give the Dolphins the victory with less than five minutes remaining.

Until the goal Bentley had the better chances, including a great chance just two minutes earlier by sophomore Paige Tetu (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick). Off a corner kick from Anna Siefring (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) the ball found its way to Tetu at the top of the penalty box. Tetu had time to tee up and fire her shot on goal, only to be denied by a diving save by Le Moyne goalie Tori Corsaro.

The Falcons had the best chance of the first half, coming just seconds before halftime. Siefring took a free kick from the deep left corner of the field and played it into the box. Sophomore Marla Navarro (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) nearly got on the end of it on the far post, but the ball just eluded her.

Bentley's best chance in the second half came off a corner by Siefring in the 82nd minute. Sophomore Sam Ford (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) got a head on it, only for the ball to go just over the crossbar.

The Falcons (2-2, 0-1 NE-10) conclude their home stand on Wednesday when they face Saint Anselm in a Northeast-10 matchup. First kick is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
