WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior Chelsea Owens (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) and freshman Ana Tantum (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) scored the goals as the Bentley University women's soccer team posted a 2-0 victory over visiting Saint Michael's on Tuesday afternoon in a Northeast-10 match.

The goals came on both sides of halftime, with Owens striking in the first half and Tantum in the second. The win gives Bentley (2-4-0, 1-3-0 NE-10) its first victory in NE-10 play this season, while the Purple Knights (0-6-0, 0-4-0 NE-10) are still looking for their first overall.

Owens opened the scoring in the 23^rd minute to put the Falcons in front 1-0. A corner kick delivered by senior Patty McAllister (South Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) resulted in a loose ball in the penalty box. Knights keeper Aubrey Ouellet came out to retrieve it, but before she could, Tantum got a touch and flicked the ball across the goal line to Owens, who smashed it into the open net.

Saint Michael's best chance to score came only a few minutes later on a breakaway. Junior keeper Nicole Derba (Franklin, Mass./Fontbonne Academy) came off her line to make the initial save, but the ball rolled towards the open net. However, the Bentley defense was in position to make a clearance to prevent the goal.

Bentley continued to control play in the second half and had two good scoring chances from Tantum and McAllister early on. Tantum's shot from 20 yards went just over the crossbar, and McAllister's loping shot from about the same distance required a fingertip save of Ouellet, pushing the ball just over the crossbar.

The Falcons though were rewarded shortly after as Tantum netted her fourth of the season in the 62^nd minute to make it 2-0. Senior Jenna Skagerlind (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) sent a cross into the box from the right wing, and Tantum was there to meet it with a shot that beat Ouellet for the goal.

Tantum now has four goals, two assists and 10 points on the season, and leads the team in all three categories.

Derba played the first 45 minutes in goal and earned the win, before giving way to junior Christiana Hynds (West Roxbury, Mass./Boston Latin) for the second half.

Bentley is back in action Saturday when they visit No. 8 American International. Kickoff is at 1:00 pm in Springfield.
