Adelphi Rallies Past Women’s Soccer with Three Second Half Goals

WALTHAM, Mass. – Adelphi scored goals in the 71st and 75th minutes to rally from a 3-2 deficit to deal the Bentley women's soccer team a tough 4-3 home defeat on Saturday in Northeast-10 play.

After conceding an early goal to Adelphi's Emily Masiello in the 6th minute, the first of her two goals, the Falcons came back strong and took a 2-1 lead on two quick goals.

Senior Laura Muise (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) netted her second goal in as many games in the 21st minute to tie the match up at one. She took a pass from Chelsea Owens (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) in the penalty area and fired a shot from 10 yards out that beat the keeper for the goal.

Just under two minutes later in the 23rd minute it was freshman Sam Ford (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) putting Bentley in front 2-1 off Casey Neary's (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) free kick. An Adelphi foul gave Bentley a free kick at the edge of the penalty area on the left side. Neary swung the kick in and Ford was there in the six-yard box to head the ball in.

The Falcons took that lead into halftime, but Adelphi tied it up in the 48th minute on Taylor Groth's goal off a corner kick. But Bentley responded quickly. Neary put them right back in front at 3-2 in the 51st minute, knocking in a loose ball after a scramble ensued in front of the net off a free kick.

The match stayed 3-2 for the next 20 minutes until Masiello, who created headaches for the Bentley defense all afternoon with her speed, netted her second of the afternoon in the 71st minute to tie things up at three. Four minutes later junior Sarah Cote gave Adelphi the lead for good at 4-3, redirecting Olivia Czavar's cross into the goal.

Adelphi's win improves its record to 7-3-2 overall and 4-3-2 in the NE-10. Bentley, which is back in action on Wednesday afternoon when they host UMass-Lowell, falls to 3-6-2 and 1-6-2.
