Spiegel’s Goal Lifts Bentley to Win over Le Moyne, 3-0 Start

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior forward Sydney Spiegel (South Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) scored a 64th minute goal as the Bentley women's soccer team defeated Le Moyne 1-0 Saturday afternoon in the Northeast-10 opener for both squads. The Falcons also improve to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in the NE-10 with the victory.

With scoring chances tough to come by in this game, Spiegel capitalized on a good one to put Bentley in front. Freshman Caroline Fitzgerald (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) sent a cross into the box from the left wing that Spiegel volleyed in on the far post. It was Spiegel's second goal of the season and Fitzgerald's second assist.

Just minutes later Le Moyne appeared to equalize but the referee's offside flag called the goal back.

Fitzgerald was at the center of the best two chances Bentley had in the first half. In the 35th minute, she played a pass to Spiegel at the top of the box for an open shot from 15 yards out, only for the ball to sail just over the cross bar. In the 37th minute she created another chance, this time feeding sophomore Michaela Stephenson (Hampden, Maine/Hampden Academy) a pass on the right wing for a shot, only for Dolphins keeper Tori Corsaro to just get a hand on it.

Le Moyne nearly took the lead in the 51st minute on a shot by sophomore Katherine Duke that hit the crossbar and just barely stayed out of the goal on its way down.

Sophomore goalie Christiana Hynds (West Roxbury, Mass./Boston Latin) earned the win for the Falcons, improving her record to 3-0.

Bentley is back on the pitch on Wednesday when they host Saint Anselm at 3:30 for an NE-10 encounter.
