Rally Comes Up Short as Women’s Soccer Falls to Pace 3-2

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley women's soccer team cut a 3-0 second half deficit to 3-2 against Pace, but the Falcons couldn't complete the comeback and fell to the Setters as part of Homecoming Day in a Northeast-10 match.

A 71st minute goal by sophomore back Jenna Skagerlind (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) off a corner kick cut Bentley's deficit to 3-1. Just over four minutes later, sophomore Katie Moroney (North Andover, Mass./North Andover) swung a corner kick into the box, and senior Amy Wagner (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) knocked in the ball once it hit the ground to make the score 3-2.

A 70th minute goal by junior Meghan Tremblay put Pace up 3-0 after they led 2-0 at halftime.

Unfortunately for the Falcons they couldn't find the equalizer after Wagner's goal, and their record drops to 4-9-1 overall and 3-7-1 in the NE-10 with the loss. The Setters have now won four straight and improve to 6-7-1 and 5-6-1 in the NE-10.

A first half double by sophomore Amanda Mundorf put the Setters up 2-0 after the first 45 minutes. Her first goal came as she and two Bentley players chased down the ball in the box. The ball came free to Mundorf, allowing her a wide open shot on goal from five yards to give the Setters a 1-0 lead after just five minutes.

Mundorf created the second goal all on her own in the 16th minute. She forced a turnover as Bentley attempted a clear outside of its own goalie box, dribbled on net and scored with a shot from 18 yards that curled into the upper right corner of the net.

Bentley had a couple of opportunities to score in the first half. A cross from the left wing by sophomore Chelsea Owens (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) to Laura Muise (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) in the box resulted in a shot by Muise that went just wide.

Minutes later junior Julie Pomponi (Belmont, Mass./Belmont) rose up to head a cross from Wagner, but Setters goalie Courtany Hagen was there to make the save.

Hagen made five saves to earn her sixth win of the season for Pace.

Bentley returns to the pitch on Tuesday afternoon when they host Assumption.
