Women’s Soccer Earns First Win Over Franklin Pierce 1-0

RINDGE, N.H. – Freshman goalie Christiana Hynds (West Roxbury, Mass./Boston Latin) made 15 saves as the Bentley University women's soccer team earned the first win in program history over Franklin Pierce, 1-0 Wednesday night.

Bentley was outshot by a large margin but Hynds kept the ball out of the net all night, stopping eight shots in the first half and seven in the second.

Junior Julie Pomponi (Belmont, Mass./Belmont) provided the goal, her fourth of the season in the 23rd minute off a pass from sophomore Katie Moroney (North Andover, Mass./North Andover).

That would be all the support Hynds needed as she made 12 saves over the final 68 minutes, including three in the final five minutes.

Franklin Pierce has won seven NE-10 titles, all in a row from 2000-06, and it's Bentley's first win over them in 18 previous games.

The win moves Bentley's record to 3-2 in the NE-10 and 4-3 overall, and the loss drops the Ravens to 1-3 in the NE-10 and 3-3 overall.

No. 17 Merrimack comes to town for Bentley's next match, which is Saturday at 3 p.m.
