Gies Scores 51 Seconds Into OT To Give Bentley 14-13 Victory at New Haven

West Haven, Conn. – Freshman Glenna Gies (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) scored 51 seconds into overtime to give No. 20 ranked Bentley a 14-13 victory over No. 16 ranked New Haven on the road Wednesday night.

Gies' goal came on the first shot of overtime, after Julia Glavin (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) won the draw control to give them the opening possession.

The win was a big one for Bentley as they try to separate from the pack and earn a top four finish and a home game in the NE10 Playoffs. Bentley (8-4 NE10) and New Haven (8-4 NE10) came into the night two of five teams bunched together angling for the top four, along with Assumption (8-4), Merrimack (8-4) and Pace (8-4).

Gies' goal was her 3rd of the night for a hat trick, while Glavin also had a big game with four goals, one assist and 11 draw controls.

Two straight goals by Glavin just 22 seconds apart gave Bentley a 13-9 lead with 12:20 remaining in the 2nd half. But New Haven closed regulation on a 4-0 run over the final 5:09 to tie the game 13-13. A goal by New Haven's Samantha Galler with 1:21 left tied it.

Bentley had the final possession of regulation, but a shot by Gies with 16 seconds left went high and a shot by Glavin with four seconds left was saved.

The Falcons had a strong first half and led 10-6 at the break. Gies, Glavin, Sandrine Heller (Weggis, Switzerland), Cara McCarthy (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) and MaryKate Staines (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) all had two goals in the first 30 minutes.

Bentley will now close out the regular season on Saturday at Southern New Hampshire.
