No. 20 Pace Slips Past No. 19 Bentley 13-9

Pleasantville, N.Y. – Sophomores Cara McCarthy (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) had a hat trick and Julia Glavin (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) had four points, but No. 20 ranked Pace slipped past No. 19 ranked Bentley 13-9 on Saturday in a matchup of two top-20 teams.

Pace had three different 2-0 runs in the 2nd half to keep Bentley at a distance. The first run came just after halftime and increased its lead to 8-3. Bentley answered with a 2-0 run of its own. The goals came just 21 seconds apart from freshman Caroline Boudreau (Foxborough, Mass./Foxbrough) and McCarthy and made it an 8-5 game.

But Pace responded with a 2-0 run to take an 11-5 lead with 19:31 remaining. Bentley's Sandrine Heller (Weggis, Switzerland) came back with a goal at 16:03. After the teams traded possession for about five minutes without scoring, Pace netted two straight from Carlyn Mucci and Johnna Leone 32 seconds apart to take a 12-6 lead with 10:59 remaining.

McCarthy answered right back with a goal just 10 seconds later to make it a 12-7 game. But just under two minutes later Mucci netted her 4th of the day to give Pace more of a cushion.

Bentley closed the game with two straight goals, from McCarthy at 4:43 and Boudreau with 14 seconds remaining, but it was not enough to close the gap.

In the first half Bentley received goals from Christine Fish (Slingerlands, N.Y./Guilderland), Glavin and senior MaryKate Staines (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus).

Bentley (8-3, 6-3 NE10) will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they host Merrimack at 4:00 pm.
