Furious Rally Falls Short in OT as Stonehill Tops No. 20 Bentley 12-11

Easton, Mass. – A furious rally by the No. 20 ranked Bentley women's lacrosse team at Stonehill from 10-1 down in the 2nd half sent the game to overtime, but the Skyhawks emerged with the win in OT 12-11 on Saturday.

It was the 4th straight overtime game for Bentley, and they had won the previous three on its way to a 4-0 start.

For a while it looked like overtime wouldn't be necessary as Stonehill led 8-1 at halftime and 10-1 after 5:37 of the 2nd half. But after a goal by Stonehill's Shannon Hughes, Bentley went on a 10-1 run, and an 8-0 run over the final 11:20.

Freshman Caroline Boudreau (Foxborough, Mass./Foxborough) scored four straight goals in just over two minutes, starting at the 11:20 mark and ending at 9:16 to cut the deficit to 11-7. A goal by Julia Glavin (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) at 8:01 made it 11-8.

About four minutes then elapsed without any goals, but Bentley then closed with another flurry. Sophomore Cara McCarthy (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) scored unassisted at 3:56, and 41 seconds later Glavin scored off an assist from Sandrine Heller (Weggis, Switzerland) to make the score 11-10.

The teams then traded possessions off the ensuing draw control, and when Bentley had the ball back a Stonehill foul led to a free-position shot for Glenna Gies (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand), which was saved by Stonehill goalie Bailey Grant. Glavin though then scored off a free-position of her own with 1:57 remaining to tie the game 11-11.

Neither team had a shot on goal during the rest of regulation.

Each team had the ball once to start overtime, Stonehill first then Bentley, with both ending in turnovers. On Stonehill's second possession they were awarded a foul and a free-position shot, which ? Kaity Healey converted 2:18 in to give them the win.

Boudreau had a career high six goals for Bentley, and Glavin had four.
