Bentley Tops Mercy in OT 9-8 for 2nd Straight Top 25 Win

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. – Sophomore Julia Glavin (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) scored 54 seconds into overtime to give No. 23 ranked Bentley a 9-8 victory over No. 14 ranked Mercy on Saturday afternoon.

It's the second straight win over a ranked team for the Falcons, both in overtime, after they knocked off NYIT last week. They improve to 3-0 on the season with the win, while Mercy drops to 4-2.

Bentley trailed by as many as five goals in the first half at 6-1, but got the deficit down to 6-3 at halftime. The deficit was still three goals midway through the 2nd half at 7-4, but Bentley rallied to tie with a 3-0 run that spanned six minutes, which knotted the game 7-7 with 6:52 remaining.

Mercy went back in front 8-7 with a goal by Hunter Isnardi with 5:46 left.

The sequence which led to Bentley's tying goal started with defender Kate Schmal (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown East) causing a turnover on a Mercy free-position shot to give them the ball back with 40 seconds left. After a timeout and successful clear, Mercy was called for a yellow card which gave Bentley a free-position shot.

Freshman Caroline Boudreau (Foxborough, Mass./Foxborough) came up with the clutch goal on the free-position shot to send the game to OT tied 8-8.

Glavin won the draw control to start overtime, and as Bentley looked for a shot a foul on Mercy led to a free-position attempt, which Glavin converted to give the Falcons the 9-8 win.

Glavin had four goals, all in the 2nd half and overtime, while Boudreau also had a man-up goal in the 2nd half to aid in the rally.

Goalie Eliza Bresler (Newton, Mass./Newton North) made 17 saves, 10 in the 1st and seven in the 2nd half, to earn the win in the cage.

Bentley will look to make it 4-0 to start the season on Tuesday night when they host Assumption.
