PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Bentley led 8-7 at halftime, but Pace had a big second half en route to an 18-10 victory over the Falcons in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Women's Lacrosse Championship on Wednesday night.

Bentley, as the No. 6 seed in the tournament, had beaten the No. 3 seed Setters earlier in the season at home, but Pace emerged victorious on this night to advance to the semifinals on Saturday.

The Falcons led 8-7 at halftime behind three goals from freshman Julia Glavin (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) but Pace outscored them 11-2 in the second half to pull away. Midfielder Angela Kelly had three of her game high six goals over the final 30 minutes.

Bentley started the first half strong as they jumped out to a 3-1 lead after about six minutes on two goals by Glavin and one by senior midfielder Kathleen Gillespie (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet). Pace responded with a 5-0 run over the next nine minutes to take a 6-3 lead.

The Falcons though were undaunted an answered back with a 5-0 run of their own. Five different players scored during the run, and the first goal came from freshman defender Kate Schmal (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown East) at 11:27.

Junior MaryKate Staines (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) had the next goal at 10:40, which was followed by goals from Glavin and senior Carolyn Cruise (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) just 38 seconds apart to take a 7-6 lead. Graduate student Ciara Morley (Irvington, N.Y./Irvington) scored the final goal of the run at 6:37.

Bentley kept the Setters off the scoreboard for more than 14 minutes to go into halftime leading 8-7.

Pace though started the second half strong with three goals in the opening 5:03 to take a 10-8 lead. Morley scored for Bentley at 22:51 to make it a 10-9 game, but Pace then went on a 4-0 run to open up a 14-9 lead just past the halfway point.

Glavin's fourth goal of the night at 8:28 broke Bentley's goal drought and made the score 14-10, but that was the final time they were able to score, as the Setters notched four goals over the remainder of the game.

Falcons goalie Eliza Bresler (Newton, Mass./Newton North) made 17 saves on the night, the fifth time this season she recorded at least 15 saves in a game.

Pace will next take on Le Moyne in the semifinals on Saturday, while Bentley's season likely comes to an end with a 9-7 record.
