Fazio’s Seven Goals Lead No. 3 Le Moyne Past No. 19 Bentley

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Playing their fourth ranked team in a row, the No. 19 ranked Bentley women's lacrosse team fell on the road to No. 3 Le Moyne, 17-8 on Saturday.

Attacker Bryanna Fazio scored seven goals lead the Dolphins' offense, who stayed undefeated on the season at 15-0 overall and 11-0 Northeast-10.

The Falcons, who have played Adelphi, Pace and Merrimack during this gauntlet, dropped to 8-5 overall and 7-4 NE10. Their final two games of the season are at home, starting on Wednesday night against New Haven.

Bentley's sophomore goalie Eliza Bresler (Newton, Mass./Newton North) made 16 saves, the fourth time this season she has made at least 15 saves in a game.

Bentley was within 5-4 of Le Moyne with 10:33 left in the first half after a 3-0 run saw them makeup a 5-1 deficit. Graduate student Ciara Morley (Irvington, N.Y./Irvington) scored the first goal of the run at the 15:12 mark. Goals by senior Kathleen Gillespie (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet) and freshman Claire Thompson (Slingerlands, N.Y./Guilderland) followed at 13:28 and 10:33.

The Dolphins though scored the final three goals of the half to take an 8-4 lead into halftime.

To open the second half, each team scored twice. Bentley senior midfielder Carolyn Cruise (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) got the first goal 49 seconds into the half, which was followed by two Le Moyne goals. Freshman Cara McCarthy (Salem, N.H./Central Catholic) then got one back for Bentley at 27:31 to make it a 10-6 game.

Le Moyne though then began to create some separating with consecutive man-up goals from Erin McMullen and Fazio to take a 12-6 lead with 17:18 to play.

Bentley got to within 12-7 after a goal by MaryKate Staines (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) at 11:37. But Le Moyne pulled away with a 4-0 run, with two of the goals by Fazio, which opened up a 16-7 lead with about four minutes remaining.
