COLCHESTER, Vt. – Junior MaryKate Staines (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) scored a career-high five goals to lead the No. 22 ranked Bentley University women's lacrosse team to a 15-6 road win over Saint Michael's up in Vermont on Wednesday afternoon.

Staines had five goals, while freshman Julia Glavin (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) had four goals and two assists to lead the Falcons' attack.

The Falcons have now won two straight, and improved their records to 6-2 overall and 5-1 NE10.

Bentley raced out to a 3-0 lead in just over the first four minutes. Claire Thompson (Slingerlands, N.Y./Guilderland), Glavin and Staines had the goals scored.

The Purple Knights' Alex Vincent scored the next two goals in just under three minutes to get the hosts to within 3-2 with about eight minutes gone in the half. But Bentley then ripped off four unanswered goals to open up a 7-2 lead. The first three goals came in a span of about six minutes, from 20:51 to 14:44, with Staines netting two of the goals.

Almost 11 minutes passed before another goal was scored, which went Bentley's way off the stick of Glavin at the 3:53 mark. Vincent scored with just 33 seconds left before halftime for the Knights, breaking an almost 22 minute scoreless streak by the Bentley defense.

Saint Michael's opened the second half with a goal from Ashley Dineen, but Bentley got right back to it with consecutive goals from Staines and Glavin to take a 9-4 lead at the 26:20 mark.

Bentley was kept off the scoreboard for the next 12 minutes, during which time the Knights scored twice to cut their deficit to 9-6, but the Falcons' Ciara Morley (Irvington, N.Y./Irvington) found the back of the net at the 14:50 mark to break the scoreless run and make it a 10-6 game.

Following Morley's goal, Bentley broke the game open with four goals in a span of just over three minutes. Freshman Dana Lewandowski (Franklin, Mass./Franklin), junior Melissa Makarius (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown), Morley and Glavin all had goals during the spurt.

Goalie Eliza Bresler (Newton, Mass./Newton North) made 10 saves to earn the win, while senior Kathleen Gillespie (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet) led the team with four draw controls.

Bentley will look for its third straight win on Saturday when they visit Southern Connecticut.
