Assumption Stages Late Rally, Clips Bentley in OT, 11-10

WALTHAM, Mass. – Assumption scored the game's final six goals, including the winner 21 seconds in overtime, for a come from behind 11-10 victory over Bentley in a Northeast-10 women's lacrosse game on Saturday.

The Falcons led 10-5 after a goal by sophomore MaryKate Staines (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) at 19:24 of the 2nd half. But that was their final goal of the game as they Greyhounds closed on a 6-0 run.

Two straight man-up goals got them to with 10-7 with 15:03 to play. After a goal by attacker Quincy Wilkins at 7:17 cut Bentley's lead to 10-8, Assumption scored twice more in the final 3:10 of regulation, the first from freshman Amanda Burns, and the second from junior Caitlin Graves with 1:35 left in regulation to tie the game 10-10.

Assumption then won the ensuing draw control and maintained possession, but Bentley goalie Lauren Ochs (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequiot) denied a shot by Graves with 18 seconds left to keep the game tied. Bentley then rushed up the field for a chance to win, but could not get a final shot off.

Burns then won the draw control to start overtime, and a shot by Graves on the far post gave the Greyhounds the victory 21 seconds into overtime, 11-10

The defeat snapped Bentley's three-game winning streak, the first two of which came in OT.

Bentley led 6-3 at halftime, which saw senior Hannah Lindgren (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin) score her 100th career goal at 10:37. She became the 11th player in program history to reach that milestone.

Lindgren and senior Ciara Morley (Irvington, N.Y./Irvington) led the offense with two goals each, while junior Kathleen Gillespie (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet) had one goal, one assist, four draw controls and three caused turnovers.

The Falcons, now 4-6 overall and 3-4 in the NE10, are back in action on Wednesday night when they visit Stonehill.
