Lindgren Sends Bentley to 9-8 OT Win over AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior Hannah Lindgren (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin) scored 2:51 into overtime to give Bentley University a 9-8 victory over AIC on the road Saturday night, the team's second straight win in overtime.

After winning 11-10 in OT Wednesday night against Saint Anselm, Bentley again worked OT against the Yellow Jackets and emerged victorious.

The Falcons scored the final four goals of the game, with the last three over the final 10:18 of regulation to erase an 8-5 deficit. Junior Kathleen Gillespie (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet) scored with 1:22 left to tie it 8-8 and send the game to overtime.

Bentley trailed 3-2 at halftime, but scored the first two goals of the second half from Taylor Lunden (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) and Lindgren to take a 4-3 lead after the opening eight-plus minutes. After Lindgren's goal though, AIC embarked on a 5-1 run over the next eight minutes, which put them in front 8-5 with 12:36 remaining.

Bentley though began to rally with Ellie Shuman's (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North) second goal of the night at the 10:18 mark. Gillespie then got them to with 8-7 with a goal at 8:35.

A yellow card with just over two minutes left put Bentley down a player as they tried to find the tying goal, but undaunted, Gillespie scored on a free-position shot with 1:22 left to tie the game 8-8.

Lindgren's winning goal in OT improved Bentley's record to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in Northeast-10 games. They'll go for three in a row on Tuesday night at home against Southern Connecticut.
