No. 3 Le Moyne Holds off No. 18 Bentley’s 2nd Half Rally

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – No. 3 ranked Le Moyne held off a 2nd half rally by No. 18 ranked Bentley in a 12-6 win over the Falcons in the first Northeast-10 game of the season for both squads.

The Falcons, who played their 4th straight top-15 team to begin the season, outscored the Dolphins 4-3 in the 2nd half, but it wasn't enough to overcome a 9-2 halftime deficit.

Le Moyne opened the 2nd half with a goal from midfielder Nicole Delaney, but Bentley then held them scoreless for the next 16 minutes as they climbed back in the game.

A goal by senior Ciara Morley (Irvington, N.Y./Irvington) at the 22:19 mark started a 4-0 run, where three of the goals came in less than three minutes. Sophomore MaryKate Staines (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) had the next goal, followed by a goal from senior Hannah Lindgren (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin). About five minutes later, Morley scored Bentley's fourth goal in a row, to cut its deficit to 10-6 with 14:27 remaining.

However, Le Moyne kept the Falcons off the scoreboard the rest of the way, as they were able to close the game out to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Bentley's goals in the 1st half came from senior Ellie Shuman (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North) and junior Kathleen Gillespie (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet).

The Falcons (1-3, 0-1) are back on the road on Tuesday night when they visit Pace.
