Le Moyne Halts Bentley’s Run in NE-10 Semis, 18-11

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – No. 2 seed Le Moyne knocked Bentley out of the Northeast-10 semifinals on Saturday with an 18-11 defeat of the No. 3 seed Falcons, which ended the team's 11 game winning streak.

The Dolphins (17-1) advanced on to tomorrow's NE-10 championship game, where they will meet the No. 1 seed Adelphi. Bentley (13-6) meanwhile, will await word on selection to the NCAA Tournament after being ranked 6th in the latest East Region rankings. The selection show will air tomorrow at 5:00 pm on NCAA.com

The Falcons got off to a good start with a 2-0 lead inside the first two minutes of the contest, but ultimately could not sustain it. Junior Ciara Morley (Irvington, N.Y./Irvington) scored on a free-position shot just 19 seconds in, followed by Taylor Lunden (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) scoring off a feed from Kelsey Howard (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough).

After two straight Le Moyne goals evened the score, attacker Hannah Lindgren (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin) scored unassisted at the 23:49 mark to give Bentley the lead back, at 3-2. Following that goal though, the Dolphins reeled off four goals in a span of six minutes to take a 6-3 lead.

Neither team would score again for almost nine minutes, but a goal by Le Moyne's Erica Geremia at the 8:27 mark began another run which saw them jump ahead 12-3 with under two minutes left in the half. Senior Meredith Hart (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) scored for Bentley before halftime.

The Falcons scored two straight goals and three of four to open the 2nd half, to get to within 14-7 with just under 20 minutes remaining. Lindgren, Erin O'Connor (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) and Howard had the goals.

Le Moyne though kept its distance, and the closest Bentley could get the rest of the way was seven goals over the final five minutes.
