Bentley Set to Clash With Le Moyne in Northeast-10 Semifinals

WALTHAM, Mass. – 13th ranked Bentley will meet 2nd ranked Le Moyne in the Northeast-10 Semifinals on Saturday at 2:00 pm at Adelphi's Motamed Field in Garden City, N.Y. The winner will go on to the championship game on Sunday at 1:00 pm.

Bentley (13-5) is the No. 3 seed in the NE-10 Championship, while Le Moyne (16-1) is the No. 2 seed.

The Falcons earned their 11th straight victory and a spot in the semis with a hard-fought 9-8 win over Stonehill in a rainy quarterfinal game on Wednesday. Sophomore Kathleen Gillespie (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet) scored the go-ahead goal with just 1:32 remaining to break an 8-8 tie. Earlier in the half, Gillespie and Hannah Lindgren (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin) scored consecutive goals after Stonehill had taken a 7-6 lead with a 5-0 run.

Le Moyne (16-1) reached the semis with a 15-4 win over No. 7 seed AIC on Wednesday. They did most of their damage in the 1st half with 11 goals, five of them by senior attacker Maggie Monnat.

These teams met back on March 20 in Syracuse, which was the Northeast-10 opener for both squads, with the Dolphins winning it 15-11. The Falcons stormed back in the 2nd half with a 5-0 run to get to within 14-11 with 2:46 remaining, but ran out of time to complete the comeback.

That was the first of three straight defeats for Bentley to start its NE-10 schedule, culminating in a 13-6 defeat to Adelphi on March 26, but they have not lost since.

Saturday's game will be just the 2nd postseason meeting between Bentley and Le Moyne. The previous meeting came in the 2012 semifinals, which was the last time Bentley has advanced to the semifinals.

The first semifinal of the day will see top seed Adelphi host No. 4 seed New Haven at 11:00 am. The Panthers defeated No. 8 seed Pace 18-2 in the quarterfinals, while the Chargers bested No. 5 Southern New Hampshire 12-9.
