Grand Valley St. Hangs on Over Bentley, 13-11

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley outscored Grand Valley St 6-4 in the 2nd half, but the Lakers did just enough to hold off the rally as they came away with a 13-11 victory on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference game.

Meredith Hart (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and Kelsey Howard (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) each had three goals for the Falcons, while Grand Valley State was led by midfielders Ryan Skomial and Erika Neumen, who each had three goals as well.

Bentley trimmed what was a 10-5 deficit at the start of the 2nd half down to just two goals at 11-9 with a 4-1 run that took just over six minutes. After a goal by Neumen at the 18:02 mark, the scoring slowed down significantly with just three goals the rest of the way.

Neumen's goal was followed up by a goal from attacker Chelsey Bishop at the 9:42 mark to give them a 13-9 lead. Bentley would score the game's final two goals, coming from Hannah Lindgren (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin) at 7:30 and Howard at 4:18 to make it a 13-11 game, but that was the final margin.

Erin O'Connor (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) had two goals during the 4-1 run, and Hart had a man-up goal.

Howard had two of her three goals in the first half, coming about a minute apart as part of a 3-1 run, starting at the 8:16 mark with a goal from Lindgren.

Junior Lauren Ochs (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) made nine saves in goal for Bentley.

The team gets back to the field on Sunday when they visit Mount Olive in North Carolina for a 1:00 pm game.
