No. 19 Bentley Rallies Late, but Can’t Overcome No. 8 New Haven in 15-11 Defeat

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – No. 19 Bentley closed the game on a 6-0 run, but couldn't make up a 10 goal deficit and ultimately fell to No. 8 New Haven 15-11 on Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 matchup.

Bentley trailed 15-5 after New Haven midfielder Kathryn Campbell scored at the 10:38 mark. But the Falcons proceeded to rip off a 6-0 run, but ran out of time before being able to get any closer. The defeat snaps Bentley's four game winning streak.

Attackers Kelsey Howard (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) and Hannah Lindgren (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin) each tallied three points to lead the Bentley offense.

After Campbell's goal, Howard and freshman Kathleen Gillespie (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet) scored just 13 seconds apart to get Bentley to within 15-7. Sophomore Taylor Lunden (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) scored at the 4:41 mark, and the Falcons netted two more goals in the next 1:39 from Howard and midfielder Ellie Shuman (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North) to make it a 15-10 game with 3:02 to play. Lindgren scored with 1:30 left, with Howard assisting, but that was the team's last goal.

The Chargers led 6-1 after 22 minutes played in the first half, but Bentley used a 3-0 run, before New Haven scored again, to close within 7-4 at halftime. Lindgren, Shuman and Meredith Hart (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) scored during the run.

Campbell tallied five goals, and attacker Courtney Ackland had four, to lead the New Haven offense.

Bentley drops to 9-4 overall and 7-4 in the NE-10, while New Haven improves to 12-2 and 9-2 with its fourth straight victory. The Falcons are back in action on Wednesday when they visit Franklin Pierce at 3:00 pm.
