No. 20 Bentley Wins 4th Straight, 16-14 over No. 17 Saint Anselm

WALTHAM, Mass. – No. 20 Bentley picked up its fourth straight win on Saturday afternoon, defeating No. 17 Saint Anselm 16-14 in Northeast-10 women's lacrosse.

The Falcons closed strong after Saint Anselm tied the game at 13 with 11:22 to play, with three straight goals that saw them to the victory. Sophomore Ellie Shuman (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North) had two of the goals, just 34 seconds apart at the 8:53 and 8:19 marks. Erin O'Connor (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) then netted a free-position shot with 5:51 remaining as they led 16-13. Saint Anselm would score one last time with 2:30 left on a free-position shot, but that was the last time they scored.

That three goal lead was actually the largest of the game as it was a back and forth contest. The Falcons took a 6-5 lead after senior Jackie Brown (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) scored one of her five goals on the afternoon at the 8:36 mark of the first half. Bentley led 8-5 after midfielder Kelsey Howard (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) finished a 3-0 Falcons run with 7:12 to play, only for the Hawks to score the final three goals of the half to send the game into halftime 8-8.

Brown scored twice more in the second half, the second of which gave her team an 11-9 lead. Saint Anselm though scored three of the next four goals to tie it 12-12, before sophomore Taylor Lunden (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) broke the tie with 14:16 remaining. Saint Anselm's Michelle Kudlate then tied it again at the 11:22 mark, before Shuman scored two straight.

With the win, Bentley is now 8-4 overall and 7-3 in the Northeast-10, while the Hawks drop to 4-6 and 3-5. Bentley is back in action next Saturday when they visit New Haven.
