Shuman, Brown Each Score 5 Goals as Bentley Rolls Past Franklin Pierce

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior Jackie Brown (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) and freshman Ellie Shuman (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North) each had five goals as Bentley University rolled to a 20-5 win over Franklin Pierce in a Northeast-10 women's lacrosse game Saturday afternoon.

Both Brown and Shuman established career-highs for goals as Bentley won for the third straight time and fifth time in the last six games. The run has moved the team's Northeast-10 record to 6-4 and 7-7 overall with two games in the regular season remaining.

Bentley scored the first two goals of the game from Brown and sophomore Erin O'Connor (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) to take a 2-0 lead after three-plus minutes. Franklin Pierce though responded by going on a 3-0 run that gave them its only lead of the afternoon. Junior Madeline Shopshire had two of the goals for the Ravens.

However, Shopshire's goal at the 18:24 mark was the last goal Franklin Pierce scored for almost 43 minutes as Bentley scored 16 goals in a row, including 10 in a row over the rest of the first half.

Shuman had a run where she scored three of four goals and four of six, helping Bentley take a 9-3 lead with 7:05 left in the first half. Brown had three of her goals in the first half and the Falcons led 12-3 at halftime.

The Falcons scored six more in a row in the second half, featuring a man-up goal by Brown and goals by sophomores Tori Cerny (Olney, Md./Good Counsel) and Caitlin White (Irondequoit, N.Y./West Irondequoit). White's goal with 7:07 to play made the score 18-3 and was the first of three goals she scored the rest of the way.

Nine different players in all had goals for Bentley.

With another win chalked up, the Falcons will go for four straight when they visit Merrimack on Tuesday night for a 7:00 pm game.
