Bentley Runs Past So. New Hampshire 12-9

WALTHAM, Mass. – Senior Jackie Brown (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) had a hat trick and graduate student Taylor Bastien (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) notched five more assists to help the Bentley women's lacrosse team to a 12-9 win over Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday night.

The win is the second straight and fourth in five games for the Falcons, who improve their Northeast-10 record to 5-4 and overall record to 6-7. The Penmen fall to 2-7 in NE-10 play and 4-10 overall.

After Southern's Alexa Allen scored the game's opening goal 2:20 in, Bentley never trailed again after senior Carolyn Kynoch (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) tied it up 51 seconds later. But Southern did keep it close until Bentley pulled away over the final 10 minutes.

The Falcons took a 7-4 lead into halftime and pushed their lead to 8-4 after Brown's third of the game just 21 seconds into the second half. But a 3-0 run by the Penmen that took over 12 minutes brought them to within 8-7 after freshman Taylor Graf scored at the 12:40 mark.

But Bentley responded with a decisive 4-0 run. Sophomore Tori Cerny (Olney, Md./Good Counsel) got it started, scoring with 10:05 to play. Goals also came from sophomores Kelsey Howard (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) and Erin O'Connor (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) and Bastien during the run. The last goal of the run by Bastien came with 5:45 to play and gave Bentley a 12-7 lead.

Bastien had four of her five assists in the first half, including assists on three of Bentley's first four goals. She now has 34 on the season.

The Falcons will go for their third straight win on Saturday when they host Franklin Pierce for a 12:00 pm start.
