Big Second Half Helps Bentley Defeat Assumption 11-8

WORCESTER, Mass. – Bentley outscored Assumption 6-2 in the second half and senior goalie Ally Dorman (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) made 10 second half saves as the women's lacrosse team defeated Assumption 11-8 on Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 encounter.

The Falcons trailed 5-2 after 18 minutes of the first half after Assumption's Amy McNeil found the back of the net for the fourth of her five first half goals. But Bentley outscored them 9-3 the rest of the way. Freshman Ellie Shuman (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North) had a first half hat trick and ended the day with four goals. Six different players scored Bentley's six second half goals.

After McNeil's fourth goal of the first half made it 5-2 Greyhounds, Bentley went on a 3-0 run that started with a goal from Shuman, and also featured goals from seniors Taylor Bastien (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) and Carolyn Kynoch (Ashland, Mass./Ashland). McNeil though scored again before the half was over, giving Assumption a 6-5 lead at halftime.

Bentley opened the second half with a goal from sophomore Erin O'Connor (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow), but McNeil quickly answered back for Assumption at the 23:49 mark to give them the lead back at 7-6.

There was nearly 13 minutes between goals, but it was Bentley's Taylor Lunden (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) scoring the next one with 10:55 to play to tie the game at seven. Freshman Hannah Lindgren (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin) then gave Bentley its first lead of the afternoon at the 9:19 mark.

The Falcons scored three more goals in a row to take an 11-7 lead with 4:04 left. Amy Ernst (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central), Shuman and Jackie Brown (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) also had goals to help them pull away, while Dorman help snuff out the Assumption offense with her 10 second half saves.

With the victory, its third in four games, Bentley improves to 4-4 in the Northeast-10 and 5-7 overall. While Assumption drops to 6-4 in the NE-10 and 8-5 overall. Bentley's next game is at home, Wednesday night when they host Southern New Hampshire at 7:00 pm.
