NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Three different players recorded a hat trick as Bentley University defeated Southern Connecticut State 19-11 in Northeast-10 women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. The Falcons improve to 3-3 in NE-10 play with the win.

Bentley exploded for 12 goals in the first half on its way to a 12-6 halftime lead over the Owls. Southern Conn cut the deficit to 14-9 after nearly nine minutes of the second half, but Bentley responded with a 5-0 run over the next 13 minutes to put the game away.

Senior Carolyn Kynoch (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) and freshmen Hannah Lindgren (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin) and Ciara Morley (Irvington, N.Y./Irvington) had hat tricks. Senior attack Taylor Bastien (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) went for a game-high six points on two goals and four assists.

The teams went back-and-forth over the first 18 minutes of the first half, with the Owls trailing 6-5 after a 2-0 run was finished with a goal by freshman Kennedy Sherman at the 12:03 mark. But the Falcons proceeded to go on a 3-0 run, with Lindgren scoring the first two, to take an 8-5 advantage. Lindgren scored the first goal of the run just nine seconds after Sherman's goal, then scored again on a free-position shot at the 11:04 mark. Morley had the last goal of the run with 8:56 left in the half.

A goal by Southern's Sarah Muise only temporarily halted Bentley's momentum. They responded by scoring the final three goals of the half. Morley got it started with a goal at the 2:52 mark, with freshman Ellie Shuman (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North) assisting. Senior Jackie Brown (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) and Morley had free-position goals in the final minute as Bentley led 12-6 at the break.

The Owls scored three of the first five goals of the second half with Muise scoring two of them. That brought the hosts to within 14-9 with 21:08 to play, the closest they would get the rest of the afternoon.

A goal by Bentley's Tori Cerny (Olney, Md./Good Counsel) at the 20:19 mark kick-started a 5-0 Falcons run that put them comfortably ahead at 19-9 with just under eight minutes left. Shuman, Lindgren Kynoch and Bastien had the other four goals during the run.

The Falcons' record goes to 4-6 overall and 3-3 in conference play with the win. The Owls fall to 2-8 overall and 0-7 in the NE-10. Bentley will look for its third straight win when they host rival Stonehill Tuesday night at 7:00 pm.
