Women's Lacrosse Runs Past Assumption 16-10

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley women's lacrosse team outscored Assumption by three in each half, and the No. 12 Falcons defeated the Greyhounds 16-10 Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 game for their second win in a row.

Senior Cori Geiger (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) led the Bentley attack with three goals. Her third of the game with 16:58 left in the second half was the 145th of her career, which moved her past Kellyn Riccitelli '07 for second most in program history.

But Geiger was just one of six to record multiple goals for Bentley on the day. Freshman Tori Cerny (Olney, Md./Good Counsel) was one of them, and she added two assists to join Geiger with a game-high four points.

The Falcons jumped out to a 4-0 lead after eight minutes on a goal by freshman Kelsey Howard (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough), and never led by fewer than three goals from that point on. Junior Jackie Brown (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) had two of the goals during the opening run.

Bentley used a 3-0 run, with goals from Carolyn Kynoch (Ashland, Mass./Ashland), Cerny and Amy Ernst (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central), to take a 9-3 lead with 6:26 left in the half. But Assumption closed the half with a 3-0 run of its own to cut Bentley's lead to 9-6 at halftime.

The Falcons though opened the second half strong with three straight goals in the first three minutes to take a 12-6 advantage. Two goals by Geiger bookended the run, with a goal by senior Taylor Bastien (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) in between.

The lead never dropped below five goals the rest of the way, as the Falcons improve to 8-4 overall and 6-2 in the NE-10. They Greyhounds drop to 8-6 overall and 5-5 in the NE-10.

Bentley's next game is Wednesday night at Southern New Hampshire.
