Three Net Hat Tricks as No. 12 Bentley Downs So. Connecticut 17-3

WALTHAM, Mass. – Three players recorded hat tricks as No. 12 Bentley University rolled to a 17-3 win over Southern Connecticut State Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 women's lacrosse.

Bentley led wire-to-wire in earning its sixth win of the season and second in a row. They improve to 4-1 in NE-10 play, while the Owls fall to 0-7 in the conference.

Grad student Megan Wiggins (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough), senior Taylor Bastien (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) and junior Chelsea Larivee (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan) each had hat tricks for the Falcons. Senior Cori Geiger (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) had a game high five points on two goals and three assists.

Wiggins scored the game's first goal just 21 seconds in, and junior Carolyn Kynoch (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) scored 54 seconds in to give Bentley two goals before the game was even a minute old. A goal by Geiger 3:12 into the contest made it 3-0, and preceded two straight goals by Wiggins, who had a hat trick before nine minutes elapsed.

Larivee netted her first of the afternoon at the 13:50 mark to give Bentley a 6-0 lead, but Southern Connecticut scored its first of the game from senior Katie Walter 45 seconds later. Geiger and Bastien had goals with 2:58 and 2:11 left in the half to give Bentley an 8-1 lead at halftime.

The Falcons continued to pour it on in the second half, scoring three times in the first 5:51 to lead 11-1, with the goals coming from Kynoch, Larivee and Bastien. An Owls goal by sophomore Emily Orser temporarily brought their deficit under 10, before Bastien scored again at the 19:34 mark to make the score 12-2.

They would score five more times to close out the game, with junior Jackie Brown (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) providing two of the goals.

Bentley is back in action Tuesday night when they visit rival No. 9 Stonehill for a 7:00 pm game.
