White Among Inaugural Class of Inductees for A STEP UP Assistant Coaches Hall of Fame

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University Associate Head Women's Basketball Coach C White is among the inaugural class of inductees for the A STEP Up Assistant Coaches Hall of Fame Presented by Worth Advisors.

This is the first Hall of Fame of its kind that specifically recognizes NCAA Divisions I, II and III men's and women's assistant basketball coaches. The Class of 2019 will be inducted on Tuesday, May 7 during the Symposium's Legends Breakfast from 7:30– 9:30 am at the downtown Sheraton Atlanta Hotel.

In addition to White, the Class of 2019 includes Donny Daniels (Gonzaga), Chris Dailey (UConn), Mickie DeMoss (Retired), Stan Jones (Florida State), Carol Owens (Notre Dame), Steve Robinson (North Carolina), Dwayne Stephens (Michigan State) and Amy Tucker (Stanford) from Division I; Dan Shardo (Findlay) frpm Division II, and Division III inductees Arthur Howell (Emmanuel College) and Tom Jessee (Augustana College).

Selection criteria included respect among colleagues for high moral character and integrity, and have made significant contributions to the game and/or teams they coached. The honoree must be an active or retired college basketball assistant coach who has been a part of winning championship-caliber programs.

White, a member of Barbara Stevens' staff at Bentley for all but one year since finishing her playing career with the Falcons since 2001, is certainly deserving of being the first Division II women's assistant in the Assistant Coaches Hall of Fame.

"C's selection to the inaugural class of the A STEP UP Assistant Coaches Hall of Fame is a such a tribute to her and a fitting recognition of her work over the 17 years she has spent on our coaching staff," said Stevens, the fourth winningest coach in NCAA women's basketball history.

"I can't think of anyone more deserving to be acknowledged in this way," continued the 2019 finalist for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. "What she has done for our program speaks for itself.  C has played a major role in consistently recruiting talented student-athletes to Bentley University, enabling our program to be nationally competitive and respected. Working together with C over the years has been one of the greatest joys of my life and I couldn't be more proud of her."

Bentley's resume since White became part of the coaching staff, as a grad assistant in 2001-02 and as Stevens' top side since 2003-04, has been impressive with the list of highlights topped by an undefeated Division II national championship in 2014.

That was one of four Elite Eight appearances during her tenure, and the list of achievements has also included 14 NCAA tournament berths, seven Northeast-10 regular season titles, the same number of Northeast-10 championships and a sparkling record of 418-125. That includes an amazing 245-45 over the last nine seasons. This season's team will take a 27-2 record and a number 12 national rankings into Thursday's NE10 semifinal against Saint Anselm.

White, a Westwood native who now lives in Wellesley, helped Bentley to a 120-12 record as a point guard for the Falcons from 1997-2001.

A STEP UP is celebrating its tenth year in providing professional development for coaches.
