No. 5 Bentley Back on the Road for Saturday Encounter with 8-1 Saint Anselm

WALTHAM, Mass. – After surviving a second-half scare at Southern New Hampshire Wednesday before pulling out a 70-65 victory, the Bentley University women's basketball team will be attempting to earn its tenth win in the fewest games possible when the Falcons visit Saint Anselm College Saturday afternoon.

Tip at the Stoutenburgh Gym is at 1:30 pm with a free webcast available at NE10NOW.tv.

Bentley, ranked fifth in the latest WBCA Division II national coaches poll, will be looking to improve to 10-0 for the seventh time during Barbara Stevens' 33 seasons and the first time since the undefeated national championship season of 2013-14. The Falcons have had to do most of their work on the road so far with only two home games among the first ten.

They'll be facing a Saint Anselm team that has won four in a row, including 82-59 at Saint Michael's Tuesday, and is 8-1 overall with the only loss coming to Stonehill two days before Thanksgiving.

Bentley has been the conference's premiere offensive team to date with the Falcons leading the NE10 in scoring (84.3), field goal percentage (.474), three-pointers (9.8), free throws (16.8) and assists (20.8), as well as all of Division II in three-point accuracy (.463).

Meanwhile, Saint Anselm has been number one in the NE10 in field goal and three-point defense, holding their opponents to .320 overall and .228 from dep. They are also second in scoring defense (53.2) and turnovers forced (20.0), and first in blocks (4.8).

Bentley has eight players, including the entire starting five, scoring at least eight a game and four others contributing at least 5.8. Sophomore guard Katie Meriggioli (Waunakee, Wis./Edgewood HS), fourth in the conference in field goal percentage, leads the way at 14.7 ppg.

Senior center Victoria Lux (Arundel, Maine/Thornton Acsdemy), 14 points away from 1,000, and senior guard/forward Megan Lewis (Sevenoaks, England) follow at 13.2 and 11.5 points per game, respectively. Lux is the squad's top rebounder (7.2) and Lewis also provides 5.1 rebounds and three assists a game.

Bentley has five of the NE10's most accurate three-point shooters, including three of the four who are at .500 or better. Senior guard Amy McDonnell (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) leads the NE10 at 14 of 26 and junior guard Julia Ford (Charlton/Noble and Greenough School) is tied for second at 9 of 17. Meriggioli has made a team-high 20 of 39, and sophomore forward Marissa Fontaine (Franklin/Bishop Feehan HS) is up to .472 after making three-of-three at SNHU.

Saint Anselm features six-foot-four junior Shannon Ryan, a 53-percent shooter who averages 18.9 points, 13.2 rebounds and 1.8 blocks.

The team's other double-figure scorer is sophomore guard Peyton Steinman at 11.7. She leads the Hawks in both assists (34) and steals (26).

The Falcons have flown past the Hawks six straight times, including 77-52 and 65-60 last season.

After taking on Saint Anselm, Bentley will begin a five-game homestand on Tuesday with a 6:00 game against Merrimack.
