QUEENS, N.Y. – Six players scored in double figures, including guards Katie Meriggioli (Waunakee, Wisc./Edgewood HS) and Maddy Springfield (Jaffrey, N.H./Conant HS) who were a combined 11 of 13 from the floor, as Bentley University shot down Queens College (N.Y.), 91-64, in non-conference women's basketball Saturday afternoon at Fitzgerald Gymnasium.

Senior center Victoria Lux (Arundel, Maine/Thornton Academy) led the 4-0 Falcons with 18 points, and senior guard Megan Lewis (Sevenoaks, England) followed with 14 points. Meriggioli and Springfield both scored 13 points, junior guard Julia Ford (Charlton/Nobles & Greenough School) tallied 11, and freshman guard Kolleen Bouchard (Houlton, Maine/Houlton HS) added ten.

Bentley, ranked eighth in the preseason WBCA and D2SIDA polls, shot an impressive .583 overall while making at least half its shots in every quarter. The Falcons were also nine of 18 from three-point land.

With Springfield having the hot hand early, Bentley wasted no time in taking charge. An early 16-2 run produced an 18-5 lead midway through the opening period. Meriggioli launched the spurt with a three that put Bentley in front for good and the surge included three triples buried by Springfield.

The Knights (1-2) closed to within seven points twice, at 27-20 early in the second and at 52-45 during the opening minutes of the third. Each time, Bentley regained the advantage with runs of six unanswered pushing the advantage back to 13.

Coach Barbara Stevens' team carried a 73-54 lead into the fourth and broke the game wide open by scoring the first ten points of the final stanza. That run included both Ford and Bouchard connecting from downtown.

Lux, who scored 12 of her 19 in the third, made seven of 12 shots and also had five rebounds. Lewis, in addition to 14 points on four-of-seven shooting, had six assists and three offensive boards. Meriggioli made six of seven shots and Springfield finished five of seven, including three of four from three. Ford matched her career-high and Bouchard (4-5 shooting) reached doubles for the first time as a collegian.

Junior guard Beth Bonin (Cicero, N.Y.) led Queens with 19 points and five three-pointers.

Bentley, in addition to its hot shooting, outrebounded the Knights 42-31 and finished with a 22-13 assist advantage.

The Falcons, after four games on the road, will open their home schedule Tuesday at 6 pm against Assumption College.
