SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior guard Lauren Green (Damascus, Md./Damascus HS) buried five three-pointers, including one for a lead her team would never relinquish 10 seconds into the game, and the Falcon bench outscored the Yellow Jacket reserves 30-6 as Bentley University, the seventh-ranked team in Division II, prevailed over American International College, 65-47, in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball Wednesday night at Butova Gymnasium.

The victory moved Bentley head coach Barbara Stevens to within two of becoming the fifth NCAA women's basketball coach to reach 1,000 career wins. She'll look to move one step closer to that magical number when her team visits the University of New Haven Saturday afternoon (1:30 pm). The Falcons will head into that one with records of 15-1 overall and 9-1 conference.

Green's first triple, from the right corner, ignited a quick 8-0 burst and put the visitors in front to stay. Junior center Victoria Lux (Arundel, Maine/Thornton Academy) followed with a rolling lay-up and senior guard Macchi Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward School) stuck a trifecta from the right wing.

After AIC got on the scoreboard, Green buried another three-ball, this one from the right side, and grad student Becca Musgrove (Plainview, N.Y./St. Anthony's HS) hit a jumper in the paint for a 13-3 lead.

Runs of 10-2 and 13-2 extended the Bentley advantage to 16, 35-19 with 3:49 left in the second quarter. Both featured the three-ball with sophomore guard Maddy Springfield (Jaffrey, N.H./Conant HS) and junior guard Amy McConnell (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) connecting from downtown on the first one and Green and freshman forward Marissa Fontaine (Franklin/Bishop Feehan HS) doing the same on the second.

AIC battled back over the next six minutes, outscoring the Falcons 15-2 to draw within three points, 37-34, two-and-a-half minutes into the third quarter. NE10 scoring leader Dana Watts (Rochester, N.Y.) played a key role in that stretch, scoring six of the Yellow Jackets' points.

Stevens' team countered with 11 unanswered, restoring the advantage to 14 at 48-34 with four minutes left in the third. Green knocked down a second-chance three from the right wing and sophomore forward Monica Viapiano (Holden/Holy Name HS) had a pair of inside baskets.

Bentley's lead peaked at 20, 65-45, when Musgrove finished a 7-0 spurt with two free throws with a minute left.

Green, who eclipsed 1,200 points for her career, was the Falcons' only double-digit scorer as she finished with 17 points and five assists in 28 turnover-free minutes. It took her only eight shots from outside the arc to make her five triples.

From the bench, Bentley received eight points from Viapiano and Springfield, along with six from McConnell. Meanwhile, the AIC reserves were a combined three of 17 from the field.

Junior forward Megan Lewis (Sevenoaks, England) topped the Falcons in rebounding with seven, with Viapiano, Smith and Springfield following with six.

Sophomore guard Rashana Siders (Waterbury, Conn.) led AIC (8-9, 2-7 NE10) with 17 points and Watts put up a 14-point, 14-rebound double-double.

Neither team shot well (Bentley with a 33-32 percent advantage) but the Falcons had a big edge in threes (10-4), free throws (15-7) and points off turns (22-4).
