10 3-Pointers Propel No. 3 Bentley Past Saint Anselm, 77-52

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior center Victoria Lux (Arundel, Maine/Thornton Academy) turned in a 16-point, 12-rebound double-double and six Falcons combined for 10 three-pointers as Bentley University shot past Saint Anselm, 77-52, in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball Saturday afternoon at the Dana Center.

Bentley, ranked third in Division II this week before getting upended by Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday, improved to 9-1 overall and 5-1 NE10. Saint Anselm dropped to 6-4 overall and 4-3 conference.

The Falcons took a 38-22 lead into the halftime break with a 6-1 advantage in three-pointers accountable for most of the difference. Three of those came in a span of a minute early in the second with junior guard Megan Lewis (Sevenoaks, England) connecting from out top, senior guard Lauren Green (Damascus, Md./Damascus HS) delivering her 202nd career triple from the left corner and Maddy Springfield (Jaffrey, N.H./Conant HS) on target from the left wing.

Another Falcon three-ball beat the first-quarter buzzer, senior guard Trevena Bennett (Union, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's HS) dropping one in from the left corner to make it a 21-13 lead.

The other two Bentley triples came during an early 10-0 run that put the home team up 12-2 before the game was four minutes old. Those were provided by Green from the left wing and graduate guard Becca Musgrove (Plainview, N.Y.) from the top of the key.

Bentley also received a productive first half from Lux, who had locked up her fifth double-double of the season before intermission.

Throughout the second half, the Falcon lead ranged from 22 to 30 points with each quarter starting with a Green three-pointer. She hit from the left side 12 seconds into the third and from the left corner to begin the fourth-quarter scoring.

Lux, who had seven of her 12 rebounds under the offensive basket, achieved her double-double in only 21 minutes. Green (12 points, 4 rebounds) connected on four of her nine attempts from outside the arc, and sophomore forward Monica Viapiano (Holden/Holy Name HS) came off the bench to score 11.

Lewis scored eight points in only nine minutes, and the Falcons got a solid effort from senior forward Cassie Smith (Edison, N.J./Metuchen HS), with eight rebounds, six points, four assists and a pair of steals.

For Saint Anselm, which didn't have any players score in doubles, six-foot-four sophomore center Shannon Ryan (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) was held to four points (all at the foul line) and three rebounds in 12 minutes. She entered the game averaging 22.1 points and 10.8 rebounds.

The Bentley D limited the Hawks to 26.6 percent shooting overall and just 2 of 22 from three. The Falcons finished at. 408 overall, including 10 of 27 from deep, and had a 49-42 rebound advantage. Assists favored the home team by a wide margin, 23-5.

Bentley will be back in action Tuesday for a 5:30 game at Merrimack College.
