COLCHESTER, Vt. – Double-doubles from junior center Victoria Lux (Arundel, Maine/Thornton Academy) and sophomore forward Monica Viapiano (Holden, Mass./ Holy Name HS) helped lead the undefeated Bentley University Falcons to an 81-47 win over St. Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball Saturday afternoon at the Dana Center.

Lux, who scored her 12th point more than nine minutes before St. Michael's reached that mark as a team, finished with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Viapiano achieved her second straight double-double, coming off the bench to provide 13 points and 13 rebounds.

With the victory, the number three-ranked team in Division II improved to 8-0 overall with half of those coming in conference play. St. Michael's, limited to 19 percent shooting in the first half, dropped to 4-4 overall, including 1-4 NE10.

Following runs of 15-0, 10-0 and 10-2, Bentley took a commanding 49-14 lead into the halftime break. Lux was one rebound shy of a double-double at intermission with her 14 points matching the Purple Knights. During the first two quarters, she actually had more field goals (7) in 11 attempts than St. Michael's (6) had in 31.

The 15-0 run produced a 24-4 lead with 2:23 left in the opening stanza. Lux scored eight during that stretch, including the first six, and Viapiano tallied the final three.

The 10-0 started the second quarter, giving the Falcons a 36-7 advantage. Five different players made baskets during that run.

And the visiting Falcons closed the opening half with a 10-2 run over the final 5:10 with that spurt including a three-pointer from senior guard Trevena Bennett (Union, N.J./ Gill St. Bernard's School).

Bentley started the fourth quarter with a 10-2 run, the first four scored by senior forward Cassie Smith (Edison, N.J./Metuchen HS), to open a game-high 42-point advantage, 77-35.

The Falcons' third double-figure scorer was graduate guard Becca Musgrove (Plainview, N.Y./St. Anthony's HS), who finished with 10 points, five assists and two steals. Bennett provided eight and both Cassie Smith and senior guard Macchi Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward School) scored seven.

Junior forward Samantha Delaney (Smithtown, N.Y.) led St. Michael's with 11 points.

Bentley coach Barbara Stevens actually played her non-starters more than her starting five while gaining her 991st career win. The starters totaled 51 points and 27 rebounds in 89 minutes and the bench produced 30 points and 28 boards in 111.

After the hot shooting first quarter (11/20, .550), Bentley tailed off and finished at .413, ten percent higher than the Purple Knights (.313). The Falcons dominated the boards, 58-39 overall with 20 offensive. The specialty numbers also favored the visitors with Bentley having the advantage in points in the paint (50-28), points off turns (22-6) and second chance points (20-10).

Bentley's next game is at home on Wednesday against Southern New Hampshire.
