No. 3 Bentley Takes 7-0 Record to St. Michael’s for Saturday Matinee

WALTHAM, Mass. – After setting a school record for points in a game and a quarter in Wednesday's win over Franklin Pierce University, the Bentley University Falcons will take an 84.3 scoring average and a 27.7 winning margin to Vermont for Saturday's Northeast-10 Conference encounter at St. Michael's College. Tip off is set for 1:30 pm with a webcast available at www.smcathletics.tv.

Bentley, 7-0 overall and 3-0 Northeast-10, has won its last two games by a total of 104 points, disposing of Bridgeport 84-44 before shooting past Franklin Pierce, 114-50. It was the Falcons' most lopsided contest in 17 years, the most points scored by an East Region team since 2012 and broke the Bentley record of 111 that had stood since February 1995.

The Bentley bench has been off the charts the last two games, scoring 55 points against Bridgeport and bettering that number with 62 against the Ravens.

One of those non-starters, sophomore forward Monica Viapiano (Holden/Holy Name HS), put up an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double in 19 minutes of action. She became the sixth different Falcon to lead the team in scoring this season while raising her averages to 7.4 points and six rebounds.

Four Falcons currently own scoring averages of 11 points or better with junior center Victoria Lux (Arundel, Maine/Thornton Academy) at the top of the list at 13.1. She also leads coach Barbara Stevens' team in rebounding, collecting 10.3 a game.

Grad student and guard Becca Musgrove (Plainview, N.Y./St. Anthony's HS), senior guard Lauren Green (Damascus, Md./Damascus HS) and freshman forward Marissa Fontaine (Franklin/ Bishop Feehan HS) are the other three producing in doubles.

Musgrove has produced 12 points and 2.3 steals a game in her first seven contests as a Falcon. Green, who has averaged 11.9 points in 18.6 minutes, will become the fourth Falcon to amass 200 career three-pointers with her next basket from long distance. Fontaine, who is averaging 11.4 points off the bench, has knocked down 11 of 13 three-pointers in her three games against NE10 opponents.

Green, Lux and Musgrove have been joined in the standard starting five by senior guard Macchi Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward School) and senior forward Cassie Smith (Edison, N.J./Metuchen HS). Macchi (7.5 ppg) has a team-best 23 assists and 16 steals while Cassie helps out with seven rebounds and 5.7 points a game.

St. Michael's, since dropping a 65-53 decision at Franklin Pierce just before Thanksgiving, has posted a pair of solid wins to improve to 4-3 overall and 1-3 NE10. The Purple Knights claimed a 59-51 non-conference victory over American International last Sunday and earned a 67-41 win over Assumption College Wednesday.

The Purple Knights held the Greyhounds to 27 percent shooting and received 20 points from junior guard Emily Ferreri. She's one of four players on the team scoring at least nine a game, a list headed by six-foot-two junior Samantha Delaney. She averages a double-double, 13.3 points and 10.1 boards.

Bentley will be home twice next week, taking on Southern New Hampshire Wednesday and Saint Anselm Saturday.
