No. 6 Bentley Begins 3-Game Week Tuesday at Assumption

WALTHAM, Mass. – A busy week for the 3-0 Bentley University women's basketball team, one that includes three games in six days as well as Thanksgiving, will begin Tuesday night when the Falcons visit Assumption College. Tip-off at Laska Gymnasium is scheduled for 5:30 pm with a link to the webcast at www.bentleyfalcons.com.

Coach Barbara Stevens' team will also have a pair of home matinees over the weekend, New York Tech on Saturday and the University of Bridgeport on Sunday.

Bentley, the only remaining unbeaten in the Northeast-10 Conference, is coming off an 84-73 win over Stonehill College in its home and conference opener last Saturday.

That one saw the Falcons start with a 19-2 run and close with a 29-19 burst after falling behind briefly early in the fourth. The final stanza included a trio of three-pointers from freshman forward Marissa Fontaine (Franklin/Bishop Feehan HS).

Stevens, 14 wins shy of 1,000 for her career, has a deep roster with nine players having appeared in all three games and averaging at least 12 minutes. On the other hand, only two are playing as many as 25 minutes a game so far, grad student Becca Musgrove (Plainview, N.Y./St. Anthony's HS) and Fontaine.

Senior guard Lauren Green (Damascus, Md./Damascus HS) tops the scoring list at 14 a game, having netted 42 points in only 53 minutes. Fontaine and Musgrove average 12 points and junior center Victoria Lux (Arundel, Maine/Thornton Academy), the NE10 Player of the Week is averaging a double-double (11.3 points, 11.7 rebounds) after her career day against Stonehill (24 points, 20 boards).

Senior forward Cassie Smith (Edison, N.J./Metuchen HS) is tied for fourth in the conference in offensive rebounds while providing 8.3 points and 9.0 rebounds overall.

Assumption, an NCAA tournament team a year ago when the Greyhounds finished at 19-9, are off to an 0-2 start after losing six seniors from that squad. Offense has been an issue as they've averaged only 47.5 points in losses to Merrimack (63-50) and Saint Anselm (55-45).

Junior forward Morgan O'Donnell is the team's only double-figure scorer currently, averaging 14 points as well as eight rebounds.
