WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior forward Victoria Lux (Arundel, Maine/Thornton Academy) powered her way to 24 points and 21 rebounds, both career-bests, as Bentley University, the sixth-ranked team in Division II, improved to 3-0 with an 84-73 win over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference women's basketball Wednesday night at the Dana Center.

The 20-20 game by Lux was the first for a Falcon since former All-America Jen Gemma achieved the feat against Southern New Hampshire in December 2015.

Bentley, in its home and conference opener, erupted out of the gate with a three-ball from senior guard Trevena Bennett (Union, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's School) with two minutes left in the opening quarter making it a 19-2 game. Stonehill missed 13 of its first 14 shots to begin its season-opener.

A 10-2 Skyhawk run surrounding the first change of periods returned the Bentley lead to single digits, at 23-15. However, three-pointers from grad student Becca Musgrove (Plainview, N.Y./St. Anthony's HS) and junior guard Amy McConnell (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) restored the Falcon lead to 13, 36-23, at intermission.

The third quarter belonged to Stonehill with the visitors outscoring the Falcons 29-18 to close to within two at the break, 54-52. Senior guard Kelly Martin (Scituate) led the comeback with 11 points in the stanza, including 7-of-7 at the foul line.

After trailing throughout the first 31 minutes, Stonehill twice took a one-point lead in the fourth, the last with 6:55 showing on the clock, 59-58, on a lay-up from sophomore forward Morgan O'Brien (Clifton Park, N.Y.).

Bentley answered by scoring the next eight, including a pair of three-pointers from the left side by freshman forward Marissa Fontaine (Franklin/Bishop Feehan HS). The spurt grew to 12-3, giving the Falcons a 70-62 lead with 3:54 to play.

Ahead by six as the clock ticked under a minute, the Falcons secured the win by making seven of eight free throws the rest of the way to hold off the Skyhawks.

Lux, whose previous career bests were 20 points and 15 boards, made 10 of 15 shots from the floor and also blocked a pair of shots during her 32 minutes on the court.

Musgrove followed with 19 points and five assists, and Fontaine helped out with 13, on 5-or-7 shooting, off the bench.

For Stonehill, Martin led the way, finishing with 20 points, seven rebounds, five helpers and three takeaways.

Bentley outshot the Skyhawks 46-33 percent and had the edge on the boards, 49-42. The Falcons were hurt by 18 turnovers, six more than Stonehlll had, which led to a 20-12 Skyhawk advantage in points off.

Bentley will be back in action Tuesday night when it visits Assumption College.
