PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Freshman forward Marissa Fontaine (Franklin, Mass./Bishop Feehan HS) scored 18 in her collegiate debut, senior guard Lauren Green (Damascus, Md./Damascus HS) followed with 17 and each contributed three of Bentley University's 10 three-pointers as the preseason number six in Division II opened with a 71-58 win over Holy Family University in non-conference women's basketball Friday evening at the Campus Center Gym.

Bentley, coming off a 26-6 campaign, used a 23-0 domination on second-chance points, a 30-17 edge in bench points and a 47-point second half to earn the victory in what was a game of runs. The Falcons had runs of 13-0, 11-0 and 12-2 while the Tigers put together spurts of 10-2 to start the game and 14-0 surrounding halftime.

After the Falcons opened a 24-18 lead, they were scoreless over the final 3:30 of the second quarter, allowing the Tigers to take a 25-24 advantage into the halftime locker room. Bentley remained stuck on 24 for the first 100 seconds of the third with Holy Family matching its biggest lead of the contest, 32-24.

Fontaine drained a three-ball from the right win to end the lengthy drought with 8:23 on the third quarter clock. During the five-plus minutes, the Falcons were 0-for-4 overall, 0-for-2 at the line and guilty of four turnovers.

An 11-0 run, ignited by the first career Bentley three from Brown transfer and grad student Becca Musgrove (Plainview, N.Y./St. Anthony's HS), put the Falcons back in front to stay for good. Green tied the game with a triple and followed with another, this time for a 40-37 lead with 5:06 left in the third. Her driving lay-up a little more than a minute later pushed the advantage to 42-37.

After Holy Family closed within four in the opening seconds of the fourth, Bentley embarked on a 12-2 surge to claim its biggest advantage, 62-48 with 5:41 to play. The first four of that run were scored by senior center Victoria Lux (Arundel, Maine/Thornton Academy).

Fontaine, a big reason for Bentley's advantage in bench points, finished 7 of 16 from the floor and 3 of 9 from downtown. She also contributed four rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal in a team-high 33 minutes.

Green had a solid shooting night, making 6 of 11 overall and half of her six attempts from outside the arc. She also provided three assists.

Musgrove scored nine in her first game since March 2016, and senior guard Cassie Smith (Edison, N.J./Metuchen HS) had a strong second half, finishing the night two points and one rebound away from a double-double.

Bentley's other transfer, sophomore Maddy Springfield (Jaffrey, N.H./Conant HS), only scored four but led the Falcons in both rebounds (10) and assists (4).

The Falcons shot much better after the break, connecting at a .541 clip after hitting only 9 of 36 (.250) during the first 20 minutes. Rebounds favored the visitors 42-35 and the Falcons only committed 13 turnovers, as compared to 21 for Holy Family.

The NE10/CACC Challenge will continue Saturday with Bentley facing Wilmington (Del.) at 5 pm.
