Bentley Eyes 26th Sweet 16 Appearance in 100th NCAA Tournament Game

After pulling out a first-round win over Jefferson University, the Bentley University women’s basketball team will be seeking its 26th Sweet 16 appearance and regional championship game in the tournament’s 37-year history when it faces USciences tonight at 5 pm at Stonehill College in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II East Regional. Bentley University is naming the basketball court at the Dana Center in honor of 1,000-game winner and Women’s Basketball Hall of Famer Barbara Stevens. The announcement was made, on the eve of the Falcons’ record 34th NCAA tournament appearance, in an email to the Bentley community by University President Gloria Cordes Larson.

Senior guard Macchi Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward School) scored all seven of the Falcons’ OT points, including a game-winning three from the right side with 3.8 seconds left, and tournament MVP Megan Lewis (Sevenoaks, England) finished with a career-best 22 points as Bentley University rallied to capture their 20th Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Basketball Championship, 73-72 over top-seeded Stonehill College Sunday afternoon at Bryant University’s Chace Athletic Center.

After capturing the 2018 Northeast-10 Conference championship with a thrilling 73-72 win over Stonehill College, coach Barbara Stevens’ Falcons were seeded second and will face number seven Jefferson University on Friday.

Due to ongoing power outages on the Stonehill College campus as a result of yesterday’s storm, Sunday’s Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Basketball championship game between the Bentley University Falcons and the Stonehill College Falcons will be played at Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I. Game time has been changed to 2 pm.
