WALTHAM, Mass. – After handing American International College just its second loss of the season, the Bentley University women's basketball team will continue its bid for the Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division title Wednesday when they are in Pleasantville, N.Y. to take on Pace University. Bentley, 13-3 overall and 7-3 in the NE-10, owns a one-game lead in the loss column over both Assumption College and Franklin Pierce. Assumption, which has a bye Wednesday, has a 7-4 conference record and Franklin Pierce, which will be at New Haven, is 6-4.

Pace, 10-8 overall after winning four of its last six, is tied for fourth in the Southwest Division with a 5-5 NE-10 record.

The Falcons put up 23 4th-quarter points against one of the conference's stingiest defenses to post the 72-65 win at AIC Saturday. Freshman guard Megan Lewis (Sevenoaks, England) led the way with 17 points, all after intermission, with ten coming in the final stanza. Included were two clutch threes in the final 95 seconds.

That was Lewis' fifth straight game in double-figures, a stretch in which she's averaged nearly 16 a game while shooting 56 percent overall.  She's tied for third in the conference in steals (2.1) and is averaging 9.0 points a game overall.

At AIC, junior forward Jen Gemma (Milton/Fontbonne Academy) notched her eighth double-double in the last ten games and her 11th of the season. She is leading the NE-10 in scoring for the second straight season, averaging 19.4, and is also second in rebounds at 10.7 a game.

Sophomore guard Lauren Green (Damascus, Md./Damacus HS) continues to shoot the three very well with her .478 accuracy mark eighth best in Division II. She made all three of her shots from downtown at AIC and the Falcons are 9-1 when she has multiple threes.

Saturday's win included 11 rebounds from freshman forward Victoria Lux (Arundel, Maine/ Thornton Academy) and a combined 18 points off the bench from sophomore guards Trevena Bennett (Union, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's School) and Macchi Smith (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward School).

Pace has struggled at the offensive end at times this season, scoring in the 40's in six of the team's eight losses. However, due to a strong defense (a conference-best .349 opponent field goal percentage), the Setters are 10-2 when they score at least 59, the team's season norm.

Sophomore guard Gabriella Rubin is Pace's lone double-digit scorer with her average 12.4 points. She knocks down about two three-pointers a game and also leads the squad in assists (56) and steals (25).

The Setters have a six-five center in Kristen Dodge, who is tied for the NE-10 lead in blocks with 33. She averages9.1 points and 6.9 rebounds while playing less than 18 minutes a game.

The Pace game is the second of three in a row on the road for the Falcons, who'll be back in the Empire State on Saturday to take on Le Moyne College.
